The month of May has already been a busy one at It’s Tuesday. “Out and About in East Anglia” has been our focus. We also have free health checks being run on 19th June 2018, by Emma Evans, Health Check Practitioner, OneLife Suffolk.
Here’s a little taste of what has been happening this month. We’d love you to come along and be a part of our ever expanding, friendly, welcoming group. (Please contact Melissa Day to book on: [email protected])
1st May: Ipswich – The group learnt about local landmarks, streets, museums, buildings and cartoon statues.
8th May: Felixstowe – Listened to information on beachcombing and finding out about the story of Felixstowe’s famous Italian family’s ice cream business.
What’s to come?
15th May: Colchester – Learn about Colchester’s Roman invaders and the famous English soldier Queen who fought them.
22nd May: Along the River Orwell – Learn about Orwell Country Park, the Orwell Bridge, Shotley Peninsula and Pin Mill.
Free health checks – 19th June 2018
A 30 minute health check will be carried out. This includes taking details of your height and weight. Testing your blood pressure and doing a cholesterol finger prick test. Lifestyle questions will be asked such as what type of activities you participate in or whether you smoke. You will then be given a risk score of developing cardiovascular disease and how to reduce your score. (OneLife Suffolk runs groups to stop smoking).
Want to start a conversation group?
We were delighted to have a member of Suffolk Refugee Support (SRS) attend our conversation group in March 2018. SRS got in touch as they were thinking of starting a conversation group for their young unaccompanied Asylum Seekers and Refugees – for those who wished to practice their English in addition to the studies that they are currently undertaking at Suffolk New College.
SRS wanted to come along to our conversation group to get some ideas. The feedback was that it was of value to attend the group as certain considerations were flagged up.
If a member of your organisation wants to attend our group to get ideas on how to start up a conversation group of your own, please contact Melissa Day on: [email protected]
